N: The nose on tis was different from the 'farclas and yet has some of the same descriptors for me. The orange becomes mixed peel here, but the sherry and raisins are there in abundance
P: Sweet and sour. Lots of dried fruits. Mouth-coating too. But the sourness is unusual. However, it works!
F: Now the marzipan from the cake comes through, but oddly there seems to e some salt after a second or two, which was unexpected. Very very long finish
Comments: Another good Japanese. For a sherried malt I wouldn't rate this quite with the 'farclas 15 or the Redbreast 12, but it is very very good.
N : Predominantly caramelised oranges, with a good strong whiff of peaches and papaya. A hint of raisins. Sherry matured?
P : Those oranges are still there but now more spicy than caramelised - an interesting difference from the nose. There are lots of dark red fruits in there too, replacing the peaches and papaya. No wait - the peaches are in there after all.
F : The peaches come through more strongly at the end though the oranges and raisins are still there.
A very nice malt - the bottle's back on the shelf and if I weren't too lazy I would check whether this is sherry matured - it certainly seems to be and is a much better one than, for example, Macallan sherry matured (to my nose and palate).
N : Oranges and toffee apples. Maybe it's not quite toffee - treacle? Eucalyptus oil? Quite intense.
P : All of the above, in spades. Very smooth and mellow though. Nice coating mouthfeel. Dried fruit (Christmas cake) and the orange is more like candied peel.
F : Long and strangely cool Spicy on top of the dried fruit and treacle.
C: Excellent example, almost gone now. I loved this. THe first Japanese whisky I had and it converted me instantly.
