N: Sea air and peat. Some seaweed and a trace of oranges (bizarrely - I think my nose is playing up today ) Going back to it after a few minutes there was some candy on the nose
P: A good hint of sweetness underlying the peat and smokiness. Those oranges are still there after a few seconds. Very warming and slightly astringent
F: Quite long and warming with the peatiness glowing through.
Not the best PE I've had by a long chalk, but very nice all the same.

Notes based on a sample.
Bottled for the anniversary of Bar Metro in Italy and repatriated my my good wife
N: Smoke, tar and citrus. Warm and smooth. Lovely - culd nose this for hours, but I'm supposed to be drinking it! Oh, some smoked meat just made an appearance.
P: Sweet peat smoke and lemon meringue. Fruits are in there but hard to identify in the haze of smoke - some cherries with the lemon perhaps? Warming and very yummy (accuracy and discrimination of flavours is my hallmark you know)
F: Smokey peat again, very powerful. Chocolate and cherries. Long, long finish. Beautiful.
C: Well, I'm glad this didn't end up in a blend before PE was closed. A single cask bottled for Bar Metro - they got their money's worth. This is possibly the best PE I've had. Up there with the RM 20yo easily.
I gave some of this to a friend who hadn't had a PE before and it blew his socks off. His view was if THIS was Port Ellen, he'd be buying every bottle he could find - best whisky he'd ever had.
I had to tell him that, love Port Ellen as I do, they aren't all at this standard. First calss - a treat for special occasions. Tracked down in Italy by my wife as a birthday present a few years ago.
n: This seems very like Mikey's - waxy, peat, salt and oranges. It's not the Laphroaig sort of peat smoke though. Much more like a bag of peat compost. Very enticing
p: A little fruit then a great burst of peat - much more than on the nose. Lovely. After a while the salty notes come and then...
f: Mouthwatering finish on peat, toffee, salt and some caramelised oranges. Pretty long - still going, a couple of minutes later.
Very nice. When I was in financial straits I let one of these go. I wish I hadn't, but it was the right thing to do at the time.
Status: Emptied 04.01.2011; 1 Opened (18.09.2010); 1 sold
N: Burning rubber Lemon and - porridge A bit later vanilla and just a trace of mint.
P: Smoke and tea (Lapsang? Not quite). Herbal liqueur like Drambuie. Maybe a bit of liquorice in there at the end. Quite mouthwatering - but astringent at the same time (odd that).
F: Smoked fish. Sweet honey Salt. Very long indeed.
