N: Vanilla and coconut immediately, and also very fruity. Exotic fruits behind the coconut - maybe some lime? Not as salty as I expect from Pulteney, but none the worse for that. Quite fragrant.
P: Again the vanilla and coconut. Carries the nose through into the palate. Slightly oily I feel. Some toffee notes (English toffees). A little more of the brininess I expect on the palate than there was on the nose.
After a while, the fruit comes through the coconut.
F: Slightly dry, in nice contrast to the sweetness of the coconut on the palate. Quite a lasting finish that now begins to show
Comment: A NAS offering for TR only, but at 52% it's a little like a souped-up 12yo. I like this and the bottle, that I opened on 26 Sep when TH came to visit, is nearly empty. Personally I find a little water improves it.
Very like the nose, but the salt is more apparent. After a while it gets more malty and then has a hint of raisins (sherry?) - do they use a small number of sherry casks for this? (Answer - yes, apparently a few sherry casks amongst mainly bourbon)
More dried fruits and now some more sweeteness - the honey that others have mentioned. Medium length.
I love this stuff. For a 12yo at the price it sells for, it's bargain. Always fresh and tasty. A staple.
N: Much less ozone than the 12 though it's still there. Rather more toffee - maybe more like peanut brittle than toffee as such.
Still something floral about it too.
P: More of the lemon and then a big hit of malt. Some oaky spice starts to appear.
F: Lots more of the spice develops and malt coats the back of the palate. Nice sweet finish - doesn't have the bitterness of the latest 12
